Arda Nin - My world

As I have had the fortune to meet with the most excellent and admirable companions, and to be invited into their world, I should like to commemorate such friendship with an entry into mine. To my friends, lost and come; to the Dragons and the Dragon Master; to all that I hold dear on this good earth I dedicate this work. May it bring you as much joy as it given me to write it.

  • Still others had looked first to the sea, to the blood-red bays and beyond, where the stilled Sea of Nox chased the horizon forever and the waters flowed over their minds, and their blood flowed with the waters.

  • Yet the last had not yet turned their sight to search the beauty of the new world. An enchantment too had overtaken them, akin to that of the peace which the luminaria had laid upon that hour. So strong was its hold, yet so serene its peace, that until the children of the firmament returned their light to Opus and started again the winds, they stood enraptured.

  • For they first had beheld the sky, stars staring from within, and in their first breath was their heart chosen.

  • Opus and the birth of man! And the birth of desire, of secret longing for that which is unreachable. For that is your story, the story of the world and that of the caption. Of the children who played in the mounds and the youth who dashed and swam in red sea, I know you were neither. For rather, the caption was the few who looked up in wonder, in brightening fascination and overcoming joy.

  • For above was nothing which Opus, in all its wonderful glory, could offer its naive children. People made of light must return to light, yet the Earth was yet covered in shadows. The Caption must have known that all too well. For land to a seaman, Opus was not their true home. Oh no! Their home was high above the heavens.

  • In the world of stars and constellations, of things celestial and hidden desire, was where the children of the Fourth belonged. Those few who looked up saw the truth. They were the discoverers, the adventurers, the ones always seeking more, never satisfied with their surroundings. For they knew the truth, honto, and they wanted it.

  • I assume that was how Science and Knowledge was born. How Curiosity and Wonder came to existence. From the few who questioned, who wanted, who desired. They were entrenched by the forever sky. They fell within its deep spell, and they were devoured. They didn't need hills nor oceans; all they coveted was the deep black sky, and the millions upon millions of white starts within.

  • That sky is within you. That sky is within me. And all the dreamers of Opus too, that sky was within them. So please, I desire your story as I do the light from the heavens. Please, continue. I must hear more. I must learn of Opus and its children. I must know of the luuminaria and the star-dreamers.

  • So, please, speak more of your world. For your world is mine, and I do ever so love hearing its melody unfold within my soul.

  • Thus it was, according to their hearts, that the children of the children of the fourth day came to their lands. The forest-people absorbed the shadows beneath the Cat’s-Eye green, and their first steps through the trees became the roads that wandered there, beneath the mystery and shadow of the forest.

  • The Ashen-Hearts were drawn to the golden light upon the fields of the Ashen-Grey grass-lands. They were first to tread upon the far soil of the free plains, and even the Purple-Rock stone-lands felt first their steps through its heavy boulders

  • The Strand-Struck* had followed the calling of the sea unto the very edge of land. Finding that they could not walk upon the glassy surface, they remained on the greensand and there lay their abode within sound of the mirror-deep sea. *name not finalized.

  • Though they were not far-sighted as the Star-Hearted, it was spoken that, in the reflection of the sea, their captains could come to know their fathers who had created them, for the song in the waves was a part of the chorus of night, and the waters sang to the Strand-peoples.

  • Yet of the Stella-Corde, few had memory, for the light was returned again to Opus, the winds breathed from the south, and the tides once more whispered. Once the world was woken and the chorus of night drowned in the noises of the land, the Star-Hearted had removed to the Blue-stone Mountains in the South...

  • ...where the near sky darkened into the abyss above and the stars fell in showers upon the peaks of Opus. They were from the first a race of few, and in the silent valleys, they found a shadow lingering from the peace of the first hour. There they hid themselves from the business of the world, for of all the kinds, they were closest to the luminaria of the fourth day, and their kind was forgotten.

  • Opus's story would not come to the vibrant sound of the voice if not for your telling. Nor would the tale of the Star-Hearted, which I have found myself akin too, be ever understood and remembered without one from its own kind. The choruses of the sea might bring the wishes of the father, but yet does the darkened and glittering rush of Night's sky bring the very soul of luminaria to the children.

  • The story of the Star-Hearted will not fail Time's test. For I will remember it, you my prophet into the world of Opus. I too know that the blood of a Star-Hearted runs through my veins, and I hold that secret knowledge with gleeful pride.

  • Opus now lives divided, walled by factions and cultures alien to each-other. So it is, yet each kind flourishes one another, each kind brings forth uniqueness and harmony to the wonderful world that is Opus. Every new division connects Opus in a symbiotic way unimaginable to any thought before. So does the dwellers of the Blue-stone Mountains bring awareness to Opus.

  • For they see Truth's beauty; They know the hearts of their long forgotten ancestors. Star-Hearted fit them well, the name symbolizing the very minds of the people who gazed into the night skies. For they saw the hearts of the desolate stars so far away, and they knew them well.

  • So far away, forgotten over the mountains of the south, does the tale of the Star-Hearted begin, and that tale remains the essence of the world Opus.
