I honestly do not see the point of the monster-hunter-series. Could someone explain it to me? Maybe I would buy it :)

  • Not easy to explain. First of all its not a casual game, you must learn the monsters movements and build strategy. No levels, kill to farm gear. Slaying mighty dragons with friends, many playstyles

  • The game flow is simple. You gather stuff from everywhere (from herbs to insects to mining and fishing) so you can prepare yourself for the hunts. Then you hunt big monsters and use their body parts

  • that you literally carve off of them to make weapons and armors out of. Then you use the new stuff you made to fight bigger and tougher monsters. Rinse repeat forever, that's it. And although that

  • sounds repetitive and therefore plain and boring, it's not. The reason is that the fighting itself, a core mechanic of the game, is based 80% on player skill and only 20% on equipment. This means that

  • a bad player with the best armors and weapons would still fail quests while someone who knows what they're doing could succeed with much worse gear. This is one of the allures of the series. The fact

  • that you yourself as a player get better at fighting the monsters over experience, trial and error, and not through level ups and stat boosts. The game doesn't hold your hand, and has a steep learning

  • it wasn't just an inevitability that simply required you to level up more. Also, due to the fact you make gear out of the stuff you fight, your character is a walking trophy. And since there's tons of

  • monsters to fight, there's tons of equipment too. This brings out allure number 3, for completionists, there's tons of things to craft and forge, just because they look so darn cool. And finally, if

  • you add the multiplayer mode into the reasons, the feeling of growing closer to other players over well planned and well executed strategies is a great thing. But then again, this can also have the

  • opposite effect, as with every online multiplayer game, your teammates may instead simply annoy you to no end. But all in all, when a team works well together, the feeling of "great teamwork" is also

  • an allure to the series. So: 1) Challenge 2) Progression/reward 3) Crafting cool looking stuff 4) Epic intense fights 5) Teamwork. All that together: Monster Hunter.

  • I suggest trying the demo. It's hard to explain to some one without them having tried it out, as it is a pretty unique game. On the surface it looks like a huge grindfest.

  • But the game is challenging enough to keep you engaged throughout, with each fight having a really unique feel. Weapon choice and loadouts keep the playstyle fresh too.

  • Multiplayer is great fun, where teamwork really matters. The basis of the game is to collect parts to make armors and weapons to collect more parts from harder quests. Sounds boring but as I said

  • the game is that balance of challenge and reward to keep it fun and addictive. Not a casual game by far, you have to try it to know if it's for you :)

  • Honestly, the demo sucks.=P.......But don't let that put you off!I bought it on sale after hating the demo and am still really enjoying it!
