ok but can you awnser the question have you unlocked the secret stages by geting all the red star rings in each world?

oh ok because geting all star rings in each world unlocks new stages each based on a wisp and geting all the red rings in those stages unlocks a secret boss

i got all the rings and there was no boss

you have to unlock all the secret stages and get the red rings in all the secret stages and then a new lava mountain stage opens
