I am him, i hold World Records on Mario Circuit 1 for snes SMK, the first race track in the franchise. Plus a few other tracks, the rest are mostly held by friends in France, Netherlands, Brazil, etc whom i also compete with. Not doing as much records these days, been busy. But the odd bits for fun, MKSC has similar driving mechanics so thats cool.

I'm speechless! This is my first ever posting of anything time trial in Mario Kart and I get a response from the Master! Thank-you so much for taking the time to post on this topic! I've always followed Mario Kart games but they are so tricky to master, honestly I don't know how you do it! What do you think of the current games in the series? I heard about something called 'snaking' being removed?

My pleasure Garusan, i dont have time to play the new versions or at any high level, plus the mechanics are very different but am friends in the community with those who do compete at the top. Racing is too much item based whereas the original is balanced with more driving being the key which is good. Small probabilities for lightnings etc...

That's a really good point, they are very different styles of play. Are you still doing competitions?

Yes there are Super Mario Kart SNES World Championships annually in France every August, held in a village La Suze-sur-Sarthe for now. This year 6 members of Team UK are attending, including the almost 2nd fastest in UK, 5th, 8th, and two around 17th / 20th fastest in the UK. All different styles. I won in 2012 but usually reach 2nd overall, 4th once. Less time to practice as years go by...

You're already a legend so you can be free to spend your time on other things in life :) That's amazing that SMK still has serious competitions running :) I enjoyed that game a lot but I would say it's the most difficult in the series to master. Are any of these competitions on YouTube and are they both for racing and time trial?

Did you do competitions for both racing and TT? I find that they are very different modes, so someone good at TT with loads of track space might find busy race tracks a lot more tricky...

Yes there is a difference between both. Bit like weightlifting and bodybuilding. However to succeed at racing here you do need to be a top Time Trialer as that is still 80% of the job for winning. There is a Time Trial one try tournament on the first evening of the World Championships. It counts all towards the overall.

That's a really nice analogy :) That makes sense too since you still need to keep the pace in racing. When you say one try you mean one attempt? So that would be five laps for the original game?

Yes one try on all of the course times in random track order, with points assigned and elimination etc...

Wow that's tough...I guess there'd be lots of practice needed. Do you like to play other games too?

Are you keen on the delayed Wii U Zelda game? I'm hoping Nintendo does something with F zero soon. FSX? The flight simulator you mean?

Yes, FSX, one of the greatest things since sliced bread. Zelda Wii U only if theres time. F-Zero Wii U will be too complex for driving, too much floating in air strategies and drift slidng like FZX. i do enjoy records on the original snes one.

Is FSX or sims like FSX available for Apple platforms? I enjoyed the speed and precision of F-Zero GX but also quite like the style of the snes and gba F-Zero games.
