I want to have a word with whoever quality tested this game back in the day and went "Yes! This exactly how I want the karts to control!"...

Intentionally hardcore, from a time when your grannie wouldn't know what a Wii was. I admit the controls take some getting used to, but with 4 equal players in GBA link-play the competition heats up. Shame the GBA VC doesn't support this.

  • It is rapid hop jumping and countersteer hopping like SMK which works perfectly well to keep you exactly on racing line you want, when mastered.

  • Or Firehopping in MK8

  • @Jan Given that I had a NES when they were still in production I know when something's intentionally hardcore, but at times (I feel) this goes a little beyond that. I've gotten to grips with it, but it does make swapping between this game and the other Mario Karts a little tricky.

  • @Sami Cetin and Lumiliny: Admittedly, still getting used to the original SMK. Didn't play it when it first came out, so now's my first go with it. Fire hopping in MK8 I've got down to a fine art though.

  • Word of Advice: Carefull on the Rainbow Road on this game. I fell off alot on MK7.

  • Yeah, learnt the hard way that the things at the edge of the track aren't barriers...

  • Rainbow Road isnt the toughest one to do in one try without falling off as there is a guaranteed path through it. Bowser Castle 3 is by far the hardest in this case, especially if manually hopping over every yellow bumper to keep a higher top speed. The bumpers slow you down.

  • I don't even try that hard to not hit into things on that track - it'll happen anyway.
