    Similar situation to me too. Suppose you'll have to wait for the first Splatfest to earn some Sea Snails so you can get Spike to change the ability (1 unfortunately).

    Correct me if I'm wrong; once you have, say, defense+ on a hat, it's entirely useless to have it on shoes, or shirt, right?

    Actually they stack. when you test a weapon, the defense icon are the main ability ones. the smaller one (sub ability) stack as well but are less powerful. Also good news, when you're lv20, you can just pay 30k to reroll/add slot. having a sea snail makes it 'Free'
