    Play through the first 4 worlds of the single player to practice and unlock weapons. Have a go at all the weapons, you need to know how they work to counter them and then stick to one or two. Stick with clothes and shoes to power up abilities and upgrade to ones with more slots as soon as you can afford them. Look for different routes on maps. Best results will be if you attack from the side/rear.
