Just been on the phone to Nintendo Repairs for half an hour. The error code that is coming up for a small amount of people whilst playing this game, is NOT just related to this game. It is a general 'corrupt data' message. Basically, your saved data for Smash has become corrupt. The first thing they told me was, 'DO NOT FORMAT YOUR SYSTEM'. If you can get into the Data Management section, go to

  • Thank you for the warning. As of now, I haven't picked up Smash Bros Wii U, but I will be picking it up for Christmas. I had my Wii U since Christmas 2012 but thankfully, I haven't encountered this error code.

  • Thank you for this info! I am a little unsettled since I have one of those 'old' wii u consoles, though. I can only pray that nothing like this occurs when Zelda comes out :)

  • @Doug Seriously my friend, if you have not had this error before, there is NO proof you will suddenly get it now. Like I and a few others have said, as long as you close your games and console down properly, you should be fine. Also, if playing online, DO NOT just disconnect by switching your console off. It may be reading from or writing data to your storage device at the same time. Hope you

  • have many many hours of fun with Smash, and all the other amazing games you might play on your Wii U. Please, do not let a small amount of scare mongering put you off enjoying your game(s). Have a great Christmas, and an even better New Year mate, all the very best.

  • Just wanted to say that I've played Smash for over 50 hours and had it about a week, and have never encountered this error code. I am using a small 32GB usb, and starting tomorrow, will have had my Wii U for a year. All of my friends that also have a Wii U and smash have no USB and also have not encountered an error code. People need to calm down.

  • Hi, I got a Wii U and Smash Bros. for Christmas and I was afraid of this error code happening. And there's also a similar error code located in data management in the Wii U settings. Is it safe to go in there as long as I don't get the Smash Bros. error code? I just want to delete some demos I downloaded from the eShop. Just thought I should ask since you know about this error code.

  • @Peace Boy I am pretty sure you are safe to go into your Data settings to delete the demos. The error code(s) in question are very rare, and because they happened to a few people who had played Smash, it got a lot of people scared. I can understand this, but please, don't be afraid to play Smash. As long as you quit your games properly and turn your console off correctly, you should have no

  • problems what-so-ever. Nintendo has not come out with ANY statement regarding this so called SMASH problem. The rumour has suddenly died down, and a lot of people, be they right or wrong, are now blaming non Nintendo users (Xbox, PS4), for starting this rumour due to Smash selling so well. That being said, I do know that that a few Smash players actually have had this error, and I can only assume

  • this is down to pure coincidence, and also, the first person to mention getting this code, said he had just disconnected from playing on-line whilst the match was still playing. This is a bad thing to do. DO NOT just disconnect, as data is being written to and read from your storage device, thereby, this could result in corrupt data. I hope this has helped you in some way, and I hope you have

  • Thanks, I always turn my games off properly and I wouldn't disconnect or turn my console off during online or saving anyway, I just let it do its thing as I'm not the type to do stupid things like that. Thanks again. :)

  • @MadDog My Wii U has never frozen whilst playing Smash. From what you have said, I would imagine the system got confused or even overworked. At the same time as you were playing on-line Smash, you were downloading Metroid Prime. So you had Smash reading and writing data to your storage device, at the same time, you were having Metroid written to your storage device. It is onky my opinion. In

  • future, if you are downloading something, especially like Metroid (over 7gb), I would wait until it has finished downloading before playing an on-line game. I may be wrong, and it would not hurt to try and find out some other information. But, from what I have read, that is what I think. I hope this has helped you out in some way mate, and wish you all the best for the future.
