Decades from now, when Nintendo as it always has been since it entered making videogame, must sadly be no more, the Nintendo fans who also have brains and who understand the point of the company, will, seriously, have to take over, in stopping future directors of Nintendo doing things with Mario that miss the point, like cheap generic action games that exploit the characters/themes.

OR, Nintendo could pass on their quality & sensibilities through a Nin(ten)ja order they could setup, with training schools, to keep the ways alive from generation to generation. I mean, it'll be surreal seeing tacky usage of their series, or the name passing to a bigger company for the IP to be myopically and cynically exploited. It could well happen! Kids would get rubbish

in the veil of fanservice like Super MARIO Bros. 4: The Return of The Death Koopas or something like that, which would play like a poor man's g*d of war or something but with rap music DLC & selfies from users appearing in in-game crowds in 'ironic' gritty urban & dark takes on Mario-that's what some companies would do to it! You know what, I seriously think Miyamoto will lay down some

some rules before he passes, about what can happen with his characters. Guidelines, at any rate. It's only strange that Yamauchi (to our knowledge) didn't do that, since it was a family business & he clearly saw it as being part of a mission, not accepting the 25 BILLION dollar buyout offer from Microsoft for fear of it diverging from his corporate ideology.

Maybe he was depresed, dejected, despondent and grumpy after seeing Iwata & Nintendo's ineptitude with following through on the DS and Wii success, which dereliction of consolidating on great commercial & creative breakthroughs became terrifying in its laxness by 2007 & certainly by 08, and would've had savvy buyers of Nintendo's stock who predicted the Wii phenomenon, really concerned-I remember

advising ppl to sell stock in Nintendo, as a teenage Nintendo fanboy, during 08 to 2010, until I foolishly got suckered in by the 3DS honeymoon hype at E3 2010 & was eventually proven massively wrong. (boy did I just KNOW Wii was dead then, though. DKCR & the dorkiest-feeling Zelda imaginable when Wii needed a reaffirmation of new, accessible & trendy lifestyle-compatible software? OUCH.)

If they'd pushed Sports Resort marketing harder and better, added a great new game to the key Wii range, re-promoted criminally underappreciated games like Big Brain Academy Wii with publicised budget prices, rallied the classic key Wii games around what became Wii's last commercial triumph, Just Dance, to finally attract developer support, & kept the full Wii canon more

visible to later Wii adopters who didn't ever see Wii Play or Music, & improved DSiWare & priced it competitively with the fast-emerging smartphone touchscreen game market & used the Wii & the potentially great WiiConnect24 to exploit DSi creation-sharing capabilities from built-in & downloadable apps, then Wii would've probably fared just fine & Wii U would've launched with lots of current

still-current Wii Sports etc players, enticed by Nintendo Land etc, which, Wii games & new U games both, could have benefited from lavish prize-toting & well-publicised competitions for scoring & versus winning in them, especially with Resort's fun-in-the-sun-themed family (broad 'demographic' appeal)-accessible competitiveness & spectacle. That game would've made fantastic watching fodder in

national competitions between top players after heats etc. With all of that, not to mention how this active marketing would've kept Wii Fit owners keen enough to get Wii Fit U despite the high cost of Wii U, then I doubt we'd see the face-on-the-floor Nintendo we've hopefully seen the last of now, after 5 or 6 terrible, terrible years, even including NSMBW after the damage it did to 2d Mario's

2d Mario's once heart-poundingly magnificent reputation. So no wonder Yamauchi may have not been pleased with Nintendo management, if it was as bad as I perceived that it was from '07 or '08 onwards. DS marketing became lax in '06 for goodness's sake, when all the Touch-Generations games weren't beingly well-marketed or marketed together at all, when a sense of the-best-is-yet-to-come

Incidentally, does anyone remember how poorly Nintendo managed the once mighty (it launched like a bat out of h*ll & then some thanks to MKDS, the last truly, genuinely, utterly classic-feeling Nintendo game) Nintendo WiFi connection, mere months after it launched, when the official website that was supposed to allow you to see highlight videos & leaderboards & win ratios against certain players

and all that good stuff, across all the popular WiFi Connection games, WENT UNMANAGED and GLITCHY IN ANY BROWSER, because Nintendo had obviously forgot about that aspect of the service, nearly indubitably because the idiots hadn't promoted it well enough to users of the once impressive & up-and-coming service. And many nice games using it like the 42 parlour games collection on DS, barely worked

with it over slower connections, when I got that game in '07. Maybe the website was up and running & maintained until more than half a year after launch, but I seem to remember it being not much more than that if not less before it went totally wrong even if lack of participation was justification for leaving it & not for redoubling, or rather, STARTING, promotion of it. One good thing

about the shambolic or rather, absent, management of that online service was that I once had a cheating online player against me in MKDS, whose use of a hacked version through a cheat cart or something, enabled tracks to be played that normally couldn't be played online, which was great. Also, Nintendo, why no use of the gamepad in MK8 for a detailed overhead map like in MKDS for

The two screen Nintendo systems would be great for hardcore time-trialling competitve racing games & especially for SEGA Rally (the good, original one) with a rally map on te secondary screen, or even a co-op mode with one person having to shout out the upcoming turns to help on long,

...So you're implying that Wii Sports as a series could have surpassed Smash if it was handled better. I can agree with that. As much as Nintendo may have flubbed the market for late Wii releases, they also released Kirby's Epic Yarn. While it certainly could have been commercialized better, that was something that clearly had casual gaming in mind. Oh, and bad-quality games? Started in 2003.

Also, I don't think NSMB actually damaged 2D Mario's reputation. It's true that it's being held back, but that's a quick fix: release an HD 2D Mario game that's good! It's more of an idealogical problem at this point. The gamepad should have done that. Actually, the gamepad should have been the handheld system...
