    The ranks are based on how many moves you have left after you defeat a pokemon. If you buy the 5+ moves, it should help get the S rank.

    You don't need to spend any coins in that stage to get S rank. Just take Tropius or Onix with you. They will destroy those ice blocks and you can get massive combos faster.
