Question

Can someone please help me - How do I get the Shark pieces if there are no sharks around me on the first island? I'm new to the ''Minecraft'' world.

    I swam north from the first island and discovered a shark on the next island up from it, merrily swimming about. Haven't killed one yet, so I don't know how tough they are.
