    What did you do wrong? Did you not play for 3+ combos? I don't understand how you could do so badly if you know about going for combos... My WORST results with this method are still over 4,500. All I can suggest is to go to GameFAQs and search the board for Meowth. Look at the Weekend Meowth topics and see if they help.
