    It's quite possible as some others have also mentioned that it boosts the mega Pokemon ability or makes them mega evolve faster. I'm sure you noticed some mega Pokemon have more candies than others. For example Gengar has one, but it doesn't take much to activate its mega form. We're find out sooner or later. :)
