How about course by tag? Dash, costume, Yoshi, theme, speedrun, traditional... Your levels have good design, don't ruin it with "trolling". Personally I like to see something that isn't so much "survival-marathon". I guess you might encountered "blank canvas"-problem. Like white paper to artist. "What to do?" "Where to start?"

I think it is more of a "writing block" (unable to come up with an idea) rather than a "blank canvas"-problem (stunning fear of the end result being bad). As you see i hardly upload courses, as i put much time in the design of each course. While the start is sure hard, i'm not afraid to begin my work. But without a rough idea about what to make, i can't start creating a course.

However, i actually do have a fear of blank canvas (or rather sheet of paper) when it comes to drawing. I was once quite good at drawing, but i stopped quite a while ago and whenever i want to restart drawing, stunning doubt prevents me from proceeding.

"Blank canvas" and "writing block" means pretty much same thing. (User is different, artist - writer.) Out of ideas, unable to start and fear of failure. Well, I draw too. Mostly for my own fun, I think... Just drew yesterday one picture. You can see it in my postings. (Not visible in play journal.) Keep drawing and let your mind roam free.

Some course ideas; * Level with 2 routes * Level with only 1 kind of enemy (Giant/winged versions of it allowed.) * Level without enemies Is there enemies/blocks that you haven't use yet?

I don't think there is anything i haven't used yet. Maybe "Ice Blocks"… No, i did use them in "Palast der Prüfungen" and "Talakori Medley". A level with 2 different routes sounds interesting, but for my milestone levels i usually try to make something special, like a remix, a combination of previous level elements, or anything out of the "hard gimmic/theme level" territory.

If you want to make something different, then notice this; Usually your game style is Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros. U, and theme is Castle or Ghost House. Commonly used elements; Track, Grinder, P-Switch, Twomp and Muncher. (Did I miss something?) If you don't use them this time, you probably create something special compared to your regular trademark.

Well the game style is mostly a very pragmatic choice as i always choose the style that fits the needs of the courses mechanics. The theme is mostly based on the used elements (Ghost houses are the traditional puzzles while castles usually feautre thwomps or bosses) and rarely on mechanics (if i need burning cheep cheeps for example.) Mostly it has to fit the theme.

You are right about my commonly used elements, yet you forgot to menton the POW-Block which becomes more and more prominent in my recent courses (especially when it comes to boss fights). I try to use different elements, but some are just very helpful in shaping a course theme (especially tracks which feature an incredible amount of design space). Most elements are simply pragmatic choices.

I am aware that i use the castle theme a lot though. I'm not happy about this, but many (possibly all) of my levels which use the castle theme, wouldn't work out on another theme. As i said before, for my milestone levels i love to play with and mix up already established designs, while i create actual new thematic courses regulary.

I also pick themes by same reasons. (Trying to keep levels "Mario-ish".) Well, I guess that's all what I can say this time... Good luck with your milestone level.

Thanks. And thanks as well for your concern. Your advice was surely not for naught and i will try to get more variety in my levels. For the milestone level, nothing is set in stone yet. As i said i try to play with design, and i believe even a "troll level" could turn out right if done well, but i might be wrong there. But the worst outcome were a single deleted course. ;-)
