[Rumor: 3 amiibo's discontinued ...] Nintendo has not issued an Official statement confirming VGP's story but the company did state in Investor Briefings earlier in 2014 that not all figures would be reproduced and kept in stock indefinitely. As one amiibo is sold out, figures from 'new waves' will take their place.

This would be less of a problem if demand wasn't far outstripping supply, as evidenced by retailers and second hand sellers online hiking up the prices of amiibo figures far beyond their RRP.

What is also important to consider is that there are vast swathes of Nintendo fans who never read the aforementioned investor briefings, or are even aware that they happen to begin with. They can be forgiven for thinking that the first wave of amiibo's would still be in stock mere weeks after release and as such, they could decide on their choice of figure at a later date.

There is also the matter of another group of fans who won't get Smash Bros. Wii U until Xmas...they may have had plans to try out each fighter before deciding on purchasing an amiibo based on their favorite. If for example that fighter was Marth, and the rumor is true, then that person will suddenly be faced with having to pay a hugely inflated price for their preferred figure.

Finally, there are those that question the legitimacy of the rumor because (a) There is no PR from Nintendo to back it up. and (b) The source is a small retailer and the story hasn't been corroborated by the bigger stores/sites. VGP in their defence say that "Nintendo discontinues product all the time" without issuing a press release, & "big box retailers usually don't tweet information like this"

In my opinion, Nintendo need to quit stalling and issue a PR Statement regarding the future availability of the Wave 1 amiibo line 'and' the GC Adapter. Their failing at running a business if they don't get more adapters out before Xmas and discontinue 3 amiibo's so soon after launch. They need to dispel the myths, if that's what they are, or start damage control immediately.
