for the matsuda method, ia it better to use foreign pokemon and ditto, or foreogn pokemon and my pokemon of the same species?

I believe as long as each Pokemon are from different regions, it doesn't matter.

ok thanks. ive done 5 boxes of buneary and no shiny- with japanese buneary and french ditto. now im trying japanese buneary with english buneary

Well, the chances are 1/512 with the Shiny Charm and the Masuda Method, so you'll still have to breed a lot. It'll just be easier.
