This game looks really commercial. EVERY character is a beautiful highschooler (they also prob. talk like Shakespeare and are filled with problems and issues), the setting is pseudo European, they have pretty, easily cosplyable uniforms, while the music tries to be epic and serious... lol, modern Square.

  • I see your point, and I'm not a big fan of the latest FF games, but I have a nice feeling about Type-0. Maybe it's just the fact they can't do juch worse than the Lightning trilogy... ;)

  • Yah, but man, where are the adults (Edgar & Sabin), the burly older men (Barret, Cid), the old farts (Galuf!), a varied cast in general (FFIX)...? It's just moody teens...

  • Type 0 is brilliant! There are PLOT reasons why the cast isn't as varied as usual- in the Dominium of Rebrum, the Susaku crystal 'blesses' them with the gift of magic. However, you can only use this gift if you are younger. As you get older, you lose that gift. However, there is a crazily varied cast. They just aren't playable.

  • I could have million debates about that reason. Japan really glorifies youth and I'm not sure that's a good thing in their case. And having a varied unplayable cast makes things worst. The playable ones are all handsome, cosplayable teens with cool uniforms. It's beyond commercial! But then I haven't played the game, it could be better but the presentation makes it seem like the usual thing.

  • Was the upgrade meant to be released on PS3??

  • I never heard about that. It doesn't say so, so I assume that Type 0 wasn't meant for PS3. I know XV was originally for the PS3, but got moved to the PS4.

  • I definitely see what you mean, I think exactly the same thing, especially when watching the Type-0 event music cutscene, it's a pretty cliché 'takes hoods off for badassary' thing. I have actually pre-ordered the game though to give it a try, I've heard good things.

  • Yeah I surely don't hope it's a bad game... it just seems what I stated. Look at all these teenagers... I'm puking high schools! Lol.

  • It's not that cliche really. Even though I'm not a gaming expert, it does feel like a breath of fresh air plot wise. The only thing that annoys me slightly about the game is that you cannot complete all the sidequests in one playthrough.

  • I've heard a lot of people say the same things as you, Rosie, so that's really good news. It's going to be my second purchased PS4 game, my first one was Little Big Planet 3 which is extremely broken so it can't really get any worse than that.

  • @Badham Well, unless SE decide to muck up the port, which would make me sad. In all seriousness, it looks pretty epic and I cannot wait to see who the rest of the voice cast are. Shame that I'm not gonna get a PS4- ah well, I'll just watch someone LP the game. :)

  • Well, my fav FF ever is FFVI, also thanks to the variety and mix of totally different characters/ages; it's impossible for any player not to feel some sympathy for at least one of them. I'm 33 and I really can't bond with Japanese-16 years old characters anymore, as I guess many other players like me.

  • Yeah, but the target audience is Japanese 16 years-olds, so I guess they don't bother creating older or unattractive characters anymore... Square is still very commercial regarding these things. Type-0 apparently is good and much better than the poopy Lightning games and FFVII spin offs, so that gives me more hope for the game, even if at first sight it's slightly repulsing.

  • I, personally, like to have varied casts in JRPGs... meaning that yes, I like having a moody teenager, but also put a family man along him, a 40 years old dreamer, a geek girl, a talking frog... whatever, as long as not all the characters are beautiful teens. This all makes me remember the FFXII controversy... Vaan was created to replace the actual protagonist, Basch, so that he could reflect

  • the target audience...! Terrible... I feel sorry for the creators of the game and Ivalice...

  • Yeah, FFXII is one of my favourite games and I really wish Vaan wasn't made, or at least definitely not as the main character. I hate how publishers can get in the way of creative freedom of the developers, it must be really frustrating for them.
