    ~50 if you abuse the boss, which should work good with Fred on a fort and a sword in the hand. Also don't forget to give him the elixir.

    I stood with Valentine equipped with the sword and switched to the Tome after Killing the Axe mooks not the Boss.

    That's the normal approach but what I wanted to say is: Frederick has 14 Def and 16 on a fort and if he has a sword he will have WTA against the boss which means that he will have -1 damage against Frederick. Fort should heal ~6 damage per turn. If the boss has 23 or less attack Frederick can tank him until his weapon breaks and then other weaker units can attack the boss for Exp+support points.
