    They have been talking about him saying that he is a guy. Go to GameXplain and watch a video where they analyze the Zelda Wii U trailer. They tell very good possibility's why Link looks like that.

    @BAM, I do watch gamexplain but i still don't agree with them, plus having the hero being rencarnated as a girl would be great

    Great concept, I'm open to the idea of Link being a girl but I doubt he/she having a ponytail makes him/her a girl. I guess the only way we can know is to wait. I enjoyed the Legend of Zelda Wii U trailer, actually one of my highlights out of E3!
