  • Gameplay: As you'd expect, this game features chunks of each series’ gameplay in almost equal parts, and they both play out as they do in their respective series. In the PL sections, you head around the game’s main town of Labyrinthia as you speak to locals, find out new information and solve puzzles that are SOMETIMES related to the story! These puzzles vary in difficulty, but I found them...

  • ...slightly easier than in previous Layton games. This is probably due to the trial-and-error puzzles in there to help the AA fans progress, but I still enjoyed them! In the AA sections, you control Phoenix in court, trying to defend your client. You do this by cross-examining witnesses and presenting contrasting evidence at the right time! Now, though, you can cross-examine many people at once!

  • I would have liked to see more blending of the two gameplay styles, as it barely ever happens, but they both work very well on their own!

  • Graphics: It’s safe to say this game is beautiful. The traditional Layton art style works perfectly here, but they blend the two series' styles at times, which works very well, with subtle changes to both sets of main characters. The anime cutscenes (new to the AA series) look brilliant and smooth! One thing is how the 3D effect doesn't always work here, especially on floors, but is usually fine!

  • Sound: As someone obsessed with game music, the music in this game is AMAZING. It takes several famous songs from both series and puts them together under one music style and works brilliantly! Even the new songs created for this game are brilliant and catchy in their own ways, especially the new puzzle theme! Seriously, check it out, it's amazing!

  • Conclusion: I love this game. It's sheer fan-service for both series, but still provides a decent story. It may be a bit easier than the main games in both series, and the lack of gameplay mixing is annoying, but it lasts a very long time – nearly 30 hours! If you have any interest in either series, you need this game in your life. Simple as that.

  • Good review. I have to agree with you on the music, it's absolutely brilliant, with remixes of old tracks from both games, and brand new tracks, you can hardly tell the difference between the two because the remixes sound so unique in comparison to the old ones!

  • Thanks! I would've kept this review shorter, but I basically had two series worth of gameplay to discuss!
