    Well... I suppose it's not too late to make him an alt. of Ike and whenever Chrom is fighting, some one else could be in Robin's final Smash. But I think Sakurai made it clear that he isn't gonna be playable.

    I don't think he's necessary when we already have Marth, Ike, and Robin (and Lucina, I guess).
