    I *think* the items you get are altered not by your position, but by how far you are behind the leader. Meaning you can get Stars and whatever if you're 2nd and the person in 1st is miles ahead. The same way, I've been given a Green Shell in 11th because all the racers were really close to each other. Kinda sucked in that case...

    Well, that might be true, but at the same time, you can see 1st place racer on that screenshot, reasonably close to Luigi.

    Yeah, you can actually... maybe a mix of that and dumb luck? Haha, I don't have a straight answer in that case. I'm actually not sure of my reasoning with my previous explanation, but it seems to be working like that in my mind.
