    Canon in fiction and fandoms means something is part of an official work's continuity. Toon Link referring to Link in games like Minish Cap and Wind Waker is a canon term because Toon Link is officially a part of the Zelda franchise. Toon Link referring to Link in the Zelda cartoon is not canon because nothing that happens in the cartoon is considered part of the core Zelda series.
