    It isn't good news. There's a pheonix mode where characters are revived the turn after they die.

    That's only for really bad players, though. You don't have to use it. No doubt a ton of genwunners (I just use that term for the 'genwunners' of every fanbase, even outside of Pokémon) will act like the series is ruined because of an optional feature. A few plot details have been revealed too, so eh.
