Last boss, did my first playthrough on directly in hard mode, fights are very strategic as flower wishes don't replenish health and magic during combat sequences! I strongly recommend playing this way otherwise the game might seem a little short. Count roughly 25 hours of gameplay in hard mode. That is, if I manage to beat the last boss ^^
