    Only a shinx could help... Are there any other viable electric base pokemon in platinum(not that a shinx would wreck a gyarados anyway)

    The only other viable (stat-wise) electric-type I can think of is Magnemite, but that's even worse due to the 4x Ground weakness (Gyarados has Earthquake). Elekid is unaccesible until after the Gyarados in question unless traded, and Rotom isn't even allowed. But the initial post isn't about DPPt, it's about how easy it would be to do a basic only run in XY.

    If you put it down to 6th gen pokemon than it will be a true challenge! You can't even have a ground type(which is very useful) Heliolisk would be the only electric type available,the fossils are both valid but they have many weaknesses(doing a few examples)...

    Thanks :) Well, my second idea was to only use PKMN that have evolutions that can Mega Evolve (as my original XY team was based on Mega Evolution), PKMN like Charmander, Riolu, Gastly, etc.

    If you do so,the most viable Pokemon wouldn't be available without breeding (gastly,timburr) or found really later (aron,scyther,larvitar)
