Ok guys and gals, I've found something, so far it is impossible to die in enemy ink. I've been standing in this ink for 2 minutes now and still no explosion.

    Yeah, Ink damages you, but not to the point that you die. Therefore an enemy can easily kill you if you are trespassing onto their ink. It's basically a kind of deterrent, encouraging you to cover up their ink.
