E' stato il primo personaggio della serie ad essere stato disegnato da un americano, James Goddard. È ispirato al lottatore di kick boxing Billy Blanks. All'inizio la scritta sui pantaloni doveva essere MANTIS ma dato che i personaggi che guardano a sinistra vengono semplicemente specchiati allora c'era bisogno di avere lettere che non fossero poi ribaltate quindi la scritta divenne MAXIMUM.
