    Maybe they wanted to reduce costs by backing out of licensing Google's map services twice? They are, after all, still licensing Google Maps for the upcoming Pokémon GO.

    That's a good theory! It's certainly due to financial reasons, at least. Wii Street U was not as popular as it would have deserved to be.

    Good point Sakarisker! Pokemon Company would license and partner with Google for Pokemon GO, not Nintendo. Still, I also believe Nintendo didn't want to renew their (rather expansive) Maps license for the rather scarce amount of Wii Street U users.
