    Nah. Well of course it does because it's Mario Kart, but they're more balanced than most other Mario Kart games, especially Mario Kart Wii. Rather than the place you're in, the items you get are based on distance from the other players. That's why you can get a Coin in last place sometimes, because you're close to the other players.
