Y'know, Team Flare may not have been very interesting or had much in terms of motivation, but they were arguably some of the most evil villains in a main series Pokémon game. Think about it. What's their aim? To destroy everyone who isn't Team Flare, i.e. everyone who was different. Sound familiar? It's also kinda scary how far they're willing to go for such a petty reason.

I usually measure a team by their leader, and out of all of them, Flordelis (or however he's called) is the one villain I liked best. Because he's not really evil. He tries to do something good, but does it in a completely wrong and prejudiced way. The only one I like in a similar amount are Marx and Adrian, because they also want to do something good. But they just never paid enough attention ->

in geography. All the others were just being evil because someone had to do the job. So basically, I'd like to understand why people act the way they do, and I actually like the "mislead hero" thing or however you wanna call it. Just as I like the type of bad guy that's "I once was good, but what did I even want to be good for?".

I preferred Team Plasma, which came just before it by far. I.. actually agreed with their ideals. Though not with their excecution, or what it entailed. Obviously I didn't want to stop battling with Pokémon, but I wanted them to be happy. ...yeah, I do try and make an emotional bond with my Pokémon.

Adding more fuel to the fire: Their leader invented the Holo-Caster. Their plan was destruction/slaughter on a mass scale...now what was the word for that again... While nowhere near N, Ghetsis or Cyrus's level of interesting/dark, I can't help but feel sorry for Lysandre. Though insane, it didn't really feel like he was evil. More misguided, I guess.

I forget what Lysandre's backstory/motivation/whatever was (I haven't played Y in ages). But I remember that he did seem more like the misguided type. Was Team Plasma the one that wanted to free all Pokémon? Because... I actually kinda agree with them, in a way. Although I remember hearing that they were a bunch of hypocrites, though, so that's a shame.

Their leader was using the whole "liberate all pokemon" as a front. His true goal was to take away the pokemon from everyone else so he would be the only one with pokemon and therefore be in control. Which sounds highly similar to a conspiracy theory some people here in the US believe in but I won't go on detail on that.

Out of the teams, Team Plasma is probably my favourite. You can't help but kind of agree with their ideals, especially since this is the Pokemon world. N was also really interesting. He wasn't a villain. He was a misguided hero. Heck, in the story he straight-up WAS a hero. Ghetsis was the only thing stopping N from being the protagonist.

I might have to look up more about some of these groups, then. Team Plasma especially. They sound kinda interesting.

@J.P: Yeah, Ghetsis just used that as an excuse just to take over the world. Their King, N, did genuinely want to free Pokemon though. Team Plasma is actually split in Black 2 & White 2, with one group wanting to take over and the other wanting to atone for their crimes.

As I said in that other post you read, Team Plasma had huge potential. For the first time in the series, there was actual moral ambiguity from the bad guys. They made so many legit points about the concept of pokemon battles, many of which we had thought of before. Such as the idea that we were being selfish by using pokemon for our own selfish goals.

If I lived in the Pokemon world, chances are I would have probably joined Team Plasma... at least until I learned of their hypocrisy. By the sounds of it, they make some legitimate points that I could probably agree with.

The Plasma members had different reasons on why they joined. Some genuinely cared about their goal whereas others were just selfish and greedy and only were in it so they could have pokemon too. It is the reason why the team split up in two factions in the sequel. Though things were a lot more black and white then(Hence the title lol).

@Jonathan: Not to mention, they never receive a valid counter argument. The only thing they get is "Pokemon and Humans are supposed to be friends." or something like that.

@Paul, That's why I hated about BW. Instead of making some sort of moral compromise, its just revealed that the other side was wrong and that the power of friendship is what really matters pokemon are blah blah blah. Its a very dissapointing conclusion to what actually was a very intriguing argument. BW2 abandoned this entirely and just made another good guys vs bad guys plot again.

So... Team Plasma were defeated by the REAL SUPERPOWER OF TEAMWORK? Figures.

The problem is that said "friendship" conclusion was made based on the relationship between the main character and his pokemon. Not everyone in the pokeworld is like him. There are people who do selfishly use pokemon for their own goals or for greed. Not just villains but everyday people as well. It seems they brushed that fact under the carpet.

Thanks. I don't really have anything to say about this topic, I mainly wanted to clear up the lack of spoiler warnings.

Technically, that was Lysandre's plan. And his plan was to wipe all out all bad people (if you joined Flare, you were on his side, therefore good) and all PKMN so they can't be used for evil. Much better than Pokemafia (Team Rocket).
