Mario Tennis Ultra Smash Journal Entry #1. Well I've finally gotten around to playing this game. I've already played a few matches on another profile for the purposes of my YT channel, so I already have a first impression on this game so far. They are not positive first impressions. Hopefully my 2nd impressions and those impressions that follow are better than that of my first experience.

  • As someone whose main character was Shy Guy in previous Mario Tennis games, the lack of his inclusion is a tad disappointing. Now normally, I'd default to using Luigi. The problem with that is that whilst there exists a Luigi amiibo, there does not exist a Daisy amiibo (who is my 3rd choice here). As a result, if I were to train up an Amiibo, it'd be Luigi, resulting in me playing as Daisy.

  • yeah, i don't get why nintendo didn't expand the super mario line of amiibo to include all of the playable characters in ultra smash.

  • There ends my first experience with the Mega Match (that is what it's called... right?), as well as my first match against the CPU. The Mega Match isn't as bad as what I had heard. Sure, it lacks variety in the power ups, and I'd much rather have the Power and Defence mechanic of Mario Power Tennis, but it was fun. The Mega Mushroom isn't too overpowered and isn't as often as some made it seem.

  • Gage: I don't see why they remade the Mario amiibo's that already had SSB amiibos. I feel it would have made more sense to make the other Mario characters (introduced in both Party and Ultra Tennis) amiibos first. Back on topic, I've just done a classic match. The constant chance shots are annoying, feels like the game is telling me how to play, but it's otherwise fun. A lot less when facing CPU.

  • I have found out two things; simple matches are fun, and intermediate computer opponents are super easy. I think I'm going to have to up the difficulty in order to have some more entertainment. Well, after I try out the Mega Rally mini-game.

  • That's pretty good for my first go. It only ended here because I ended up getting a body shot against Luigi. The mode itself, Mega Shot Rally, is nice in theory. In execution though, it's pretty 'meh'. So far, I've certainly have a better impression of this game than I did with my first time playing it, but I'm still rather lukewarm towards it.

  • So I've just had a go with each of the classes available; I played as Daisy and Luigi for All-Round, DK for Power, Waluigi for Defensive, Boo for tricky, Toad for speed, and Peach for technical. Tricky doesn't seem to stand out as much as it used too, and I didn't find playing as the techinal Peach much fun. My favourite class in this game is likely Defensive, Waluigi was a lot of fun to play as.

  • New Challenger Approaching! If it wasn't so blatantly obvious who it was, I imagine I'd be excited. That said, I do hope this is the way to unlock those hidden characters.

  • It's not. U can buy them all for 5,000 coins each.

  • Really wish Nintendo would stop making the amiibos almost a requirement. They're like cool Happy Meal toys but not everyone likes it. Especially when the game itself is severely lacking in content.

  • Mega Shot is super boring. Online's where it's at!! You can unlock the characters through methods stated on the prize screen, or you can just buy them. You can also unlock harder difficulty levels through Tourney Mode, or you can just buy them, too.
