Xenoblade Chronicles diary: Episode 2.
I'm level grinding in Eryth Sea with Dunban, since Shulk can only do 1 damage to the next bunch of enemies. I would also like to have Sharla in the party, but I'm not sure if I should have Riki or Reyn as my third party member. I also like Melia. I loved the scene when she first met Shulk and she was such a useful team member against the Telethia.

Indeed. I expect my character levels to at least be the 80s before I finish the game. I have also heard of a certain boss whose name starts with 'L' which apparently takes quite a lot of grinding to defeat, due to her high physical resistance.

The 80s sounds about right. I think my party was around that level when beat the game. I'll give a bit of advice though: there are 2 optional Monado Arts; Eater is kinda situational, but Armour is FANTASTIC. Be sure you get Monado Armour when you reach the Fallen Arm; it's incredibly useful and only takes 2 rather easy sidequests to get. Eater on the other hand takes HOURS to get.

Basically you need at least 3 stars of area affinity for the Satoryl Marsh/Forest/Nopon Village area before the necessary sidequest chain even becomes available. Then, you have to do a series of 3 or 4 sidequests in this chain before you finally get Monado Eater and the Advanced Manual for Battle Soul (allows you to upgrade it to Lv.10). If you feel like going for it, then you can start now.

If Monado Armour is what I think it is, then thanks for the advice. It would give Shulk more support options and work well with Light Heal. I'm not too sure about the other one, as I have also done lengthy sidequests in Zelda games, only to find out that the item I got, while great, was not as essential as I had hoped. (My experience with the Magic Armour from Twilight Princess in a nutshell)

Eater is a fan-shaped blast in front of Shulk that deals decent dmg (not as good as Buster tho), inflicts Bleed, and clears all buffs the enemy/enemies has/have. It's kinda like an in-between option of Buster (raw dmg) and Purge (clears buffs, but doesn't seal Auras). It's pretty good in certain situations, but it's by no means essential. Armour is a flat increase to Def & Eth Def for the party.

I forget exactly how long it lasts (I think it was 60 seconds), but it certainly lasted long enough to warrant the Talent Gauge usage (unlike say, Speed in most situations). I believe it starts at a 40% Def/Eth Def buff for each party member, and increases by 5% each time you upgrade it, making it 85% at max level. Armour is just amazing, especially since it only takes 2 easy quests to get.

I was visiting a friend during the last days, so I didn't get to use miiverse due to his internet connection or progress much further in Xenoblade Chronicles, but I was able to make it to Valak mountain where my party is currently level 41. Games I played with my friend include SSB Brawl (subspace co-op), Pokkén and ToS: Dawn of a New World, which we unfortunately have a goal to finish.

Based on your descriptions, I am getting Armour for sure and maybe Eater, depending on the amount of sidequests. Shulk, Riki, Dunban is also working well for me at this point, though I will have to do quite a bit of grinding. I had to revive my party members frequently during my last encounter with Metal Face.

Metal Face was a bit of a challenge, but I personally feel Xord (the 1st major Faced Mechon) gave me the most trouble out of all the Faced Mechon (aside from maybe 1 or 2 others towards the end). I played as Riki the most due to his hilarious voice and design. What set do you use with him and Dunban? I recall going Lurgy, Freezinate, Burninate, Bitey Bitey, Say Sorry, the AoE healing, the Break...

attack (forgot name), and Riki Is Angry (the Aura that increases Aggro, Defense, and adds Spike Dmg). I forgot what I used for Dunban, but I recall him being amazing. I mentioned this before, but Melia/Sharla/Riki is pretty viable too at times due to the almost pure Ether output. Say Sorry is Riki's best Art by far (clears all Debuffs on target, but multiplies Dmg times # of ailments); it's great.

It's short for Tales of Symphonia. I found certain parts of it outdated, the story got repetitive at points and I don't consider it the best game in the series like many other fans. I like the main characters, the story did also have its really good moments and the battle system, while basic compared to later games, was at least usable. More than I can say for it's sequel on the Wii so far.

I also really liked the Sorcerer's Ring item and the various effects it had on dungeons. it made the puzzles more interesting.

Never played the Tales games. I considered getting the 3DS game but heard it was pretty average. Which ones are the best to you then?

I have the 3ds version of Tales of the Abyss, but I would rather look for the PS2 version, because of local multiplayer and the advantage of playing on a TV. I enjoyed the story and side characters, but the battle system had a confusing gimmick that was essential to learn and I found the main character to be annoying, especially in the beginning.

My favourite game in the Tales series depends on the aspect looked at. Tales of Graces ƒ has my favourite gameplay and battle system, but the story is rather weak. Xillia and Xillia 2 has my favourite story and characters, but both games have their own annoying gameplay aspect. Symphonia has my favourite dungeons and puzzles, but the story took ages to get interesting and dragged out near the end.

In Tales of Xillia, you have to level up shops to get better equipment. This includes Weapons, Armour, Accessories, Items and Food Vender. In Xillia 2, you have to pay back a loan of 20 000 000 gold, bit by bit, in order to progress through the story. (Don't worry though, at a certain point in the story, this loan will be cancelled and hunting elite monsters gives you a ton of cash.)

I haven't played Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia, Vesperia or Zestiria yet, since I prefer to go through the game with a friend for the first time. Symphonia, Vesperia and Abyss are the fan favourites, but if you're interested in the series, I would recommend starting with either Graces or Xillia.

A decent amount of the series is available for the PS3. I found a bundle with Tales of Graces and Tales of Xillia on the PS3 store, which may spare you some cash, Then there's Xillia 2, Zestiria and Symphonia Chronicles. Symphonia is also available on GC and PS2 without it's sequel, which many fans of the series (including myself) found disappointing.
