    Well when you think about it, the people most likely to pass down the legends are the royal family. They're generally the ones who know the most about each crisis and have a lasting bloodline. So one way to look at it is that it's the legend as told by Zelda. It's her legend because she's the one telling it.

    In the first game, there's an actual legend in the beginning about the princess, Zelda. It was literally a legend about Zelda. The legend of Zelda. It also says something similar to that in Hyrule Historia.
