Who is your favourite character in the game, other than My Unit and Chrom? I like Inigo and Tharja.

And Donnel! Nah is probably the second or third best unit in the game.

His sidequest is annoying imo even if it's not totally difficult. And without Reeking Boxes or DLC how do you manage to train him before he's strong enough to go into a story map? (Your point about the money might be true, when I played Hard the first time I already had Golden Gaffe, so I can't say how it's without it^^)

it IS possible to train donnel to capable levels just by bringing him in to main story levels, but its not easy. The funny thing about donnel is that he makes the early game super tedious when your training him, but in exchange he makes the late game really easy.

Yeah Severa is awesome, I guess almost every character is likeable in a way.

I personally like Donnels sidequest a lot, because it requires some real thought, more so than some other levels.

i had real trouble with recruiting donnel, until i realized that there is a lone archer in the top left that is perfect for donnel to attack and level up.

What I did was, I killed the nearby barbarian, blocked the two entrances, and sent a unit to be attacked by the archer. Then I trapped the archer and Donnel leveled up.

I don't have any problems in the later levels with my other units, it's more the first levels that are difficult (and I don't grind my main army). How much thought the sidequests require depends on how strong you are, it's just that you can't rofl stomp through Donnel's sidequest if you want to recruit him. Let's say: He's a pain at first, then he's really strong and in the end he's a bit weak

again. That means he's not entirely bad but also not absolutely awesome :)

Well he is a better father than he is a unit in my opinion, at least to those three daughters. How good he is really depends on how you play the game. But he is the best Armsthrifter, I just give him a forged Killer Axe and a Ragnell while in Hero class. I really love Armsthrift because it allows you to use weapons that you wouldn't normally.

Oh and a forged 2- range axe, I increased the critical rate on it.

But Morgan is still the best unit, Nah second best, My Unit third best.

I never really cared much about "good" fathers skill- or stat-wise, I always marry who I think fits together^^ I'd say the best Armsthrifters are the children but he probably is the best out of 1st gen.

I completely agree with your comment, on my first two playthroughs I just married whatever characters were good couples, but on my unfinished third playthrough ( Lunatic difficulty) I am being careful with marriages.

If you think about it, Yarne and Nah are hybrids between their animal and humans, but if they married each other, their child would be one half human, one quarter taguel, one quarter manakete.

So I always do that pairing. If only the child units could have children, that would be so awesome.

I think you can do the higher difficulties as well without optimized couples and children (never tried it though). I heard that even Apotheosis is beatable with only 1st gen units so who cares? ;) That'd be a bit much for my tastes but okay^^

Yeah, but most of the fun in Fire Emblem Awakening is from having really strong units that can win easily, so I do enjoy making children that are better than their parents.

That depends, sometimes it's really boring when you win everything so easily (the end of my normal playthrough... ._.). And children will always be stronger than their parents ;) But yeah, I see where you're coming from. I like choosing my favourite pairings and making set families in the game. And training everyone until they're totally OP ^_^
