    can you claim to have done it without save states? i could get to dracula final form on NES but i dont think i ever finished it. thinking save states make it 'possible'....

    I saved state after collecting hearts and stuff by walking up and down the stairs, but before the fight, so I didn't have to collect hearts over and over and over again. Each time I died, I loaded back to before the battle, and never saved during. Is that good enough? :p

    its a tough call. as someone who played it sans savestates at all, there is a little bit of 'cheaty' feeling to using them. on the other hand, the game is nearly unbeatable without them....but not quite. its a perpective issue. i see it both ways. dont mean to disparage your achievement. beating it is worthy!!!

    I totally get what you're saying, so don't worry ;) I also try to keep away from save states and such, but it's kinda hard sometimes when the Virtual Console lets you in exactly where you dropped off, even when you don't save xD I'll definitely try to beat it again without any form for slight cheats. Thanks for your approval! I'll try to impress you more later :D

    ha. fwiw, im playing castlevania 3 on NES right now and have been stuck on level 7 for a month. mildly frustrating but it forces me to be better. save states look appealing at this point though

    I have completed both Castlevania II and IV, so now that I'm done with the first one, I'll get on with 3 soon! Haha, I think I get why. That game looks brutally hard!
