This is my theory. The 3 friends are a medaphore. the red guy is the teenager. the yellow guy is a child. the duck is the elderly. Roy is the media. you can find him in episodes 2-6 in the background watching the three. He is advertising in the clips food labelled with roy. in the credits of 2-5 the end says roy. one by one these 3 start to get it. The red guys head explodes because its reality.
