I was always highly interested in psychology and felt kind of depressed when I saw him. I mean, after Link is getting older, you will find this guy in the 'Lost Woods' and you try to help him but instead, he turns into mushrooms. Man, I was 7 years old when I first played OoT. It was heavy for me to see a character like him after playing 'Super Mario' (and the early Zelda games) and such.
