@berry: Yeah, it is pretty weird. Most of the series is always goofy, but occasionally they'll add a dark element. I was watching it with my little brother up to two-thirds into the first season, because the next story arc (the Tower of Heaven) got really dark, really fast. Though it's usually one of those animes that you watch after Clannad gets you depressed and you need a laugh.
