I wouldn't write it off completely. I got mine in the first wave too, it freezes and u need to switch it off at the wall sometimes but it's not completely busted. Try cleaning the disc before you play and don't button mash at the menus. Like I used to spam A really quickly to reach the online portion, and then sometimes it wouldn't load. Reconnecting the wifi to your Wii U might help too.
