Eh to be honest even by NES standards Metroid has issues. Many areas look exactly the same and it can be quite annoying. Now Metroid 2 didn't have that as much. As for gameplay, when you can have games like the three Ninja Gaiden games on the NES, Metroid seems kind of slow paced. There are also glitches everywhere and some can be pretty bad. I have had to reset the game from getting stuck.
