You should also give the 3DO controllers a chance; there were no fewer than four different kinds, and that's not even counting the third-party ones. I can beat SSF2T on 8 stars without losing a round with the original Panasonic controller, so obviously the dpad is pretty good. The daisy chaining is great as well-- 8 player with no multitap!
