That's a very good point actually, they could save a lot of money on marketing (at least in the west) by releasing simultaneously and having a standard tv/online ad for all English speaking territories. Part of it could also be adding region specific dialogue as well as the translation, wasn't there a game recently on 3DS that referenced a meme in the US version? Might've been Paper Jam Bros.
