Well, Spyro was rally just there to get the series off the ground. Once it was popular, neither Spyro, nor Crash was really needed to keep it going, which would be why Crash never showed up. Spyro I'd say is really only still there because they do that thing with having old Skylanders still be compatible with newer games.
