Well, if I recall, he's also said that while this may be his last Smash game, he can't deny that Nintendo may keep the series going without him (which we all know they're going to). Although, the same sort of logic applies, with him wanting to make it the best it can be for his (possibly) final Smash game, regardless of whether it continues after him or not.
