The main reasons why I never finished most of my GameCube games were one, I sucked, and two, I had only two memory cards, one had like 60 or so blocks and was filled very fast, the other was corrupted and formatted itself every time we turned on the system, so a lot of games couldn't be saved, and I mean a lot :P. I only got a working memory card with a lot of data space a few years back
