each species has a different use inklings balanced 4 newbs/pros, jellies (make them inkling sized) are fast with lowered attack/defense meant to find a spot and snipe, octolings are close quarter combat experts taking/giving more hits, urchins are high speed & defense and use rollers to make up for the lowered attack. before you say "[weapon type] is OP already" each they all need skill to work
