Personally, I assume the Fax Machine the Inklings kinda worship (they do hold Festivals in tribute to it's info) is one NASA left hooked up to one of their alien signal receivers & forgot about as the world was flooding/ coming to an end, & is somehow still operational. I find it a bit funny there are warding charms all over it.
