Every since Japan's first Splatfest players of the more popular team has had to play against there own team from time to time. This is so that players on the popular team dont have to wait an adsorbent amount of time for a match and has no detriment to their final score sine essentialy their win and loss cancel each other out. If anything it provides a short respite from the rigorous competition.
