The "caves" in Pikmin 3 were... different, no argument there, but they hardly stretched as long as the Pikmin 2 ones did, which was disappointing. The focus was more on collecting fruit than fighting enemies, but at least there was a lot of variation on how you obtained the fruit through puzzles, bosses, mini bosses, and exploration.
